The Importance of Learning English
English
is a widely-spoken language and the most common language in the world. Many
people speak English as their first language or – if they are non-native – as
their second language. The resources to learn English are endless. You can find
them on the Internet for free or pay to take an online English course. Improve
your listening by watching movies, videos, or cartoons in English; Improve your
pronunciation by singing English songs; and tons of other ways to learn
English.
Personally,
I think having the ability to speak English is very important. You don’t have to
be hyper polyglot, you just have to learn one language; English. After that, you
can communicate easily with other people around the world. It will be easy for
you to travel abroad. While learning a few words in local language is a good
idea, English will become a bridge for the communication gap on your travels.
Furthermore, English will help you to have a better job opportunities. Almost all of
basic qualifications to get a job is have to be fluent in writing and speaking
English, especially, for applying in large or international companies.
As
more people concentrate about the advantages of English, they start to abandon
their native language. In my country, young people are already mixing Bahasa
Indonesia with English and it is now becoming a trend. Nowadays, parents teach
their kids to speak English and it become their first language. Some of the
kids sometimes cannot speak Bahasa Indonesia. Sooner or later, Indonesia will
lost its original language.
Finally,
it is important to have a global language. It will simplify communication among
the people around the world, but don’t let it make us forget about our native
language.
